blue moon

Last night's full moon was a blue moon- the second in the same calendar month.  I photographed it as it was setting in the early morning hours.  This is the last photo I took, with the moon half set behind the ridge.

It seemed worth getting up a bit early for because it only happens, well, once in...

The arrangement of the clouds made for an unusual sunset yesterday, with an orange glow above Bell Hill.

Later, as the sunset progressed, it started to touch the more distant clouds, creating a much different look.

Here is another image from yesterday's visit to uptown Port Townsend with the plein air painters.

This black and white photo of Sweet Laurette's garden patio has digital color added.

Monday, August 20, 2012

I converted this digital photo of an uptown Port Townsend scene to black and white, then added digital color back in.

old boat 2

This one is in the clearing fog on the Port Angeles waterfront.  I did a small painting of it, but I like the photo better.

This field of Garry Oaks near downtown Sequim has been considered for development in the past, but nothing has happened yet and the oaks are still there.

A row of old buildings soaks up the sun at the Point Hudson Marina in Port Townsend.

This is a digital color photograph that was converted to black and white, then partially digitally colorized.

Dappled sunlight punctuates the deep shade on the Olympic Discovery Trail in this pinhole camera image, made just to the west of Railroad Bridge Park.  This view is looking west.

railroad bridge

This pinhole photograph of the Railroad Bridge, just west of Sequim, is from Friday afternoon's visit.  Because of the slow shutter speed, moving pedestrians on the bridge are blurred more than the normal softness of the pinhole image.

olympic discovery trail

Here is another pinhole photograph, from a visit yesterday afternoon to the section of the trail just west of Railroad Bridge Park.

I digitally posterized this summer morning photo of boats at Port Hadlock, to simplify the scene and enhance the quiet feeling.

game creator

Would you buy a used game from this person?

This photo of my friend Chris Crawford dates back to my high school days, when I developed my own black-and-white negatives and prints in a home darkroom.  Digital modification done recently, with apologies to Andy Warhol.

Chris has started a Kickstarter project to develop his game, "Balance of the Planet," an environmental simulation, and make it available for worldwide free play.

rover on the ground

This image is in honor of the spectacular arrival this morning (Zulu time) of NASA's latest rover, Curiosity, on Mars.

This photo from my childhood was taken by my father in the early Sixties, and features his company-surplus Land Rover in the desert.

My last three posts were all of old things, so I thought I should post a photo of something new.

old barn

This is the view through an old barn, in one entrance and out the other.  The barn is starting to look like it's more air than wood, and the vegetation is taking over.

This particular barn was in southern Maryland, but it could just as easily have been around here.  Scanned color slide, converted to black and white.
