original space needle

Here is another of my Dad's 35mm color slides of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair.  The top of the Space Needle was orange when it was new.  The SkyLine banquet facility at the 100-foot level did not yet exist (it was added 20 years later) and the entrance lobby at the base was smaller than it is now.

The US Science Pavilion arches are in the foreground of this photo.

We visited the Seattle Center yesterday on the 50th anniversary of the fair opening, and we noticed they are painting the top of the needle orange again!  We met some of the Seattle urban sketchers, too.
