the schooner zodiac

A couple years ago in early June, we sailed on the schooner Zodiac out of Bellingham, on a four-day Northwest lighthouse tour around the San Juan islands.

Zodiac was launched in Maine as a schooner yacht in 1924.  Beginning in the 1930s, she spent 40 years working for the San Francisco Bar Pilots before moving to the Puget Sound area and undergoing a thorough restoration.  Now, as the largest working schooner in the Northwest, she offers cruises, charters, and training programs.

what wonderful series of pictures, and such a gorgeous schooner. wow. Gabriel would love that boat too. See, I don't look in on my friends' blog for a bit, and what do i miss...sheesh. Great photographs and descriptions. Yay for sailing.

Really enjoying these posts and your descriptions. Went to the Zodiac link, what a beauty. Makes me long for next year's sailing. Was your sojourn on the vessel a good one. She looks nice and heavy...

Hi, Lindy! We had a great time on the schooner. She was very comfortable (of course, we didn't get into a blow while we were aboard). She is similar in size to the famous Bluenose and was built just three years after the Nova Scotian, but she was a yacht, originally, so perhaps never worked as a fisherman.

We had a tiny cabin with a sink and bunks, and the ship had three heads and two showers. A nice galley and good food, too.
